Cavan and Monaghan both received over €1 million in funding under the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant in Q4 2025.
That's according to figures released by the Department of Housing this morning.
Cavan County Council received just over €1 million (€1,000,007,863) in Grants Issued on completion of works in Q4.
The council also received 36 applications for the grant, and approved 32 applications.
18 grants were issued in Co. Cavan between October and December 2025.
During the same period in Co. Monaghan, €1.1 million was paid out (€1,126,427).
Monaghan County Council received 38 applications, and accepted 31 applications. 17 grants were issued on the completion of work.
Speaking to Northern Sound, local Senator Robbie Gallagher said the scheme has been a huge success.
Senator Gallagher said: "It has been a huge success since it was brought in a number of years ago. We are all familiar with a number of vacant and derelict properties plighting the landscape of our towns, villages and rural areas.
"We all are fully aware of the demand for housing, and this scheme has proven a huge success. In Cavan the figure paid out so far is €5.9 million, in Monaghan it is €8.2 million.
"People can see the success of it as they drive around our rural towns and villages, every one of them derelict businesses is now a home for some young person," Senator Gallagher added.
