The estimated dementia prevalence rate 2020 per population under 50 per county in the Northern Sound region has been revealed.
The figures were given in response to a parliamentary question from Deputy Barry Ward, who asked the Minister for Health the position regarding any assessment carried out to calculate the level of early onset dementia in people under 50 years-of-age; if comparative work is done to assess this on a year-by-year basis; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
In response, Minister of State at the Department of Health and at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage said that the Department of Health regularly reviews dementia prevalence based on a number of data sources.
The most recently published Irish dementia prevalence estimates were prepared by HSE Health Atlas in 2020 and he outlined them in a table for people under 50 years of age.
