Management at Cavan General Hospital have confirmed this morning that the Emergency Department (ED) at the health facility is experiencing high numbers in attendance.
The situation is being described as one of “significantly increased activity” and unprecedented.
Long delays are imminent and those with non-emergency medical needs are being asked to visit their GP or pharmacy rather than making their way to ED.
“Patients are being advised that there is an unprecedented high attendance at ED and unfortunately, long delays are to be expected,” a spokesperson added.
“Patients that have non-emergency needs are requested to seek alternative medical assistance, ie, GP, pharmacy, etc.
“We kindly request your continued support in hospital avoidance where possible and thank you as always for your support.”
