The HSE recently granted the approval for an extension at Errigal Truagh Special Needs.
The development has been described as a hugely important step forward for so many families in our community.
Fine Gael's Pauric Clerkin said he has worked closely with the incredible committee of Errigal Truagh Special needs, witnessing first-hand the dedication and care they provide everyday.
Cllr Clerkin noted that while there is more to do, this new development marks deserved progress.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Clerkin said he will continue to work to ensure this vital development is delivered in full.
He explained: "This is a positive outcome after a strong and sustained campaign. I was delighted to work closely with the incredible Errigal Truagh Special Needs committee witnessing first hand the dedication and care that they provide everyday.
"The extension will deliver much needed additional capacity for services. Everyone is aware of the incredible work that is carried out at the centre, the committee and staff are extremely ambitious and a number of fundraisers have been organised recently with another one coming up and it's just something that the whole community is fully behind."
