More than 15 years after the financial crash, a deeply personal and largely hidden crisis continues to unfold across Cavan, with those in or approaching retirement hardest hit.
That's according to IrishHomes.ie
It has estimated that 270 households in the county remain in mortgage arrears of over 12 months, many dating back to the period between 2008 and 2010.
IrishHomes claimed that a growing number of those affected are aged between 60 and 75.
It said that in many cases, these arrears have persisted for well over a decade, sometimes for as long as 20 years.
Irish Homes outlined that in Co. Cavan, 160 mortgage accounts, are either already in the legal process or at risk of entering it.
