MEP Ciaran Mullooly has welcomed the decision by the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee to select the Midlands North-West region for its first fact-finding mission to Ireland.
The visit will include a tour of Lakeland Dairies, the largest milk processing facility in the region, showcasing the scale and innovation within Ireland’s dairy sector.
Committee members will also visit a family-run, two-generation dairy farm in North Cavan, where they will see first-hand the practical challenges faced by modern farmers. The delegation will also turn its attention to the beef sector with a visit to Teagasc’s research farm in Grange, Co. Meath, a key site for innovation and science-led farming in Ireland.
Importantly, the mission will include direct engagement with farming organisations, providing an opportunity for grassroots concerns to be heard regarding the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) budget.
MEP Ciaran Mullooly says showcasing the realities of Irish farming on the ground will be key to ensuring that future EU legislation is fair, practical, and grounded. He says this delegation is very important for the future of agriculture in Ireland.
