Local farmers are set to take up national roles at the IFA's AGM in Dublin today.
Co. Cavan farmer, Brendan Soden, and Co. Monaghan farmer, David Hall have been elected to national committee chairs.
Mr. Soden is a layer farmer and pullet producer from Stradone Co. Cavan.
He takes over as the farming organisations poultry chair.
Speaking to Northern Sound following his election, Mr. Soden said that the cost of living for poultry farmers is something he will seek to address.
Mr. Soden said: "There needs to be a realisation that to keep farmers there, they have to make a margin, and a justifiable margin.
"One of the things that is never mentioned, is the cost of living for the farmers going up. I know its going up for the consumer, we see that in a lot of the media.
"But farmers and farm families are consumers as well, the cost of our living has gone up, so farmers wages needs to be increased," he added.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hall is a dairy and beef farmer from Newbliss in Co. Monaghan.
He is set to become the IFA's next animal health chair.
Speaking to Northern Sound this week, he highlighted issues with compensation ceilings for cattle with TB.
Mr. Hall said: "A lot of people have animals that values are valuing at above €3,000, but they only get a maximum of €3,000.
"Some of them animals are a little bit above it, which isn't a big issue, but there are animals worth €3,500 to €4,500. If a farmer has a number of those taken away from him, through no fault of his own, he just gets €3,000.
"Its a very better pill, and a big financial hit for any farmer to take," Mr. Hall explained.
