The Dáil will vote on a confidence motion in the Ceann Comhairle for the first time in its history today. Opposition parties have come together to submit the motion in Verona Murphy after her handling of last week's speaking time row.
Political Correspondent Seán Defoe reports: "Verona Murphy has already set two historic firsts - the first woman to be elected Ceann Comhairle, and now the first holder of that office to face a confidence vote on the floor of the Dáil.
"She'll comfortably survive the motion itself - but her working relationship with the opposition into the future is no given thing. They're adamant she was biased towards the Government in her handling of the speaking time row, something she denies
And it will be difficult for Murphy to win back the confidence of the 70-odd TDs likely to vote to oust her - TDs she has to work with on a weekly basis for the next five years
