A number of towns are currently experiencing flooding across the country, including Monaghan.
The local authority is urging drivers to avoid unnecessary journeys to and through the town, where a number of roads are waterlogged.
An aerial photograph on Monaghan County Council’s social media platforms show a car submerged in flood waters in the town centre and it highlights the roads and vast car parking spaces that are impassable.
The council is advising the public to never drive through flooded roads, to slow down and keep distance from other drivers, and to avoid sudden breaking or steering.
Locally, Met Éireann is advising difficult travelling conditions, debris, loose objects displaced, some fallen trees possible.
