Local councillor Raymond Aughey has welcomed free parking in Monaghan Town which is in place from today.
Free parking will be available from 12 noon daily from today until Thursday the 1st of January.
Cllr Aughey welcomed the annual initiative which he says entices people to shop local and support businesses.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Aughey believes it's vitally important to help retailers which is one of the most important sectors during this very busy time of year.
Cllr Aughey also outlined how Monaghan County Council has extended carpark facilities in the last 18 months, through the underground carpark at the Peace Campus and extended parking on the broad walk. Cllr Aughey told Northern Sound that the Council has also expanded on more long term parking in the town and free parking is available in the Harps Complex.
The Fianna Fail representative said this is all in a bid to to encourage people to park and enjoy the value of a town like Monaghan, adding that it's important to give any helping hand possible to businesses owners during this time of year."
