A local councillor is calling for emergency funding to be brought forward immediately to help tackle damaged roads across Co Monaghan.
As a result of a motion put forward by Cllr Noel Keelan, Monaghan County Council will now write to Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien to deal with the short, medium and long term funding needs when it comes to road infrastructure in Co Monaghan.
According to Cllr Keelan, funding over the last 20 years has been "simply not adequate" to keep local roads maintained to an acceptable standard.
Sinn Fein's Noel Keelan said that representatives like himself along with constituents expected to be "uplifted" by recent LIS funding , however it showed an overall decrease for both counties Cavan and Monaghan.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Noel Keelan said he has been "inundated" with calls from constituents in relation to the condition of local roads.
He said many locals have questioned why they pay so much TAX when road conditions are "simply not good enough."
