The number of Gardai being suspended from duty has reached almost record levels.
42 members of the force were suspended last year, up from 18 in 2024.
According to the Irish Times a growing number of the suspensions related to allegations of gender-based violence, including sexual assault, coercive control or domestic violence.
Garda Headquarters told the paper the 'vast majority' of Gardai act in a highly professional and ethical manner, but suspensions were sometimes needed to 'maintain public trust'.
