An Garda Síochána in the Cavan Community Engagement Functional Area are launching a Christmas and New Year operation to increase visible policing presence and combat retail crime in Cavan town from this Friday, 12th December.
The operation is aimed at ensuring Cavan town continues to be a safe place to live, visit, socialise and conduct business.
It includes an increase in foot patrols in locations that were selected following feedback from the local community and businesses, as well as crime location data.
It will focus on peak business hours, 10am and 6pm daily and there will be increased foot patrols during the weekend between 6pm and 4am.
Cavan Community Policing Gardaí will also deploy the Garda Community Engagement van to locations around Cavan town.
This operation represents the initial phase of a High Visibility Policing and Retail Crime Reduction Plan for Co. Cavan, and will run until January 9th, 2026.
On completion of the operation, the learnings from this initial phase will inform the roll-out of a wider operation to all communities in Co. Cavan.
