A 25-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing the death of woman aged in her 70s in Clones.
The fatal incident occurred just outside Clones just after 10pm on April 8th 2023. Ceara Nolan of Cara Street, Clones was charged with dangerous driving causing the death of Elizabeth McGoldrick at Clonavilla, Clones.
When she appeared in front of Monaghan Circuit Court today she pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death but not guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Mrs McGoldrick.
Ceara Nolan had been arraigned yesterday prior to a jury being sworn in for the trial but she was re-arraigned today in front of Judge John Alymer.
The court heard the plea was acceptable to the prosecution.

James McGowan SC on behalf the accused said she is very sorry over what happened on that night in question.
The court was told Ms Nolan who is a social worker has no previous convictions. A probation report was approved and any medical reports that are required will come under free legal aid.
Counsel for the state said the McGoldrick family welcomed this decision and said it has been a very difficult time and they believe the decision "greatly assists them in obtaining closure and moving on".
A sentencing date of the 6th of October at Monaghan Circuit Court was set with Judge Alymer thanking the jury that were no longer required. He told them they are excused from jury duty for 5 years.
