Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill is due to visit Cavan and Monaghan later today.
She will first visit Monaghan Hospital to officially open a new dementia friendly ward and dementia memorial gardens at the facility.
Minister Carroll MacNeill is expected to meet with staff members and local politicians at the local hospital.
The minister is also due at Cavan General Hospital to turn the sod on the major multi-million euro extension project there that was confirmed in recent weeks.
Minister Carroll MacNeill confirmed to Deputy Brendan Smith last week that contracts for the Endoscopy and ED extension project have now been signed.
Works will now begin on both projects at Cavan General after the sod turning event later this afternoon.
