Homeowners in Co Monaghan will face an increase in their Local Property Tax, following a vote passed at this month's council meeting.
Councillor Sinead Flynn expressed her "disappointment" by this decision to increase tax on the family home.
Cllr Flynn proposed a 0% increase, which was seconded by her party colleague, Cllr Colm Carthy and supported by all Sinn Fein representatives on Monaghan County Council.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Flynn says families across Monaghan are already under enormous financial strain from soaring grocery bills, electricity, home heating oil, and insurance, to the recent €1,000 increase in college fees.
Cllr Flynn said she will continue to stand up for communities and for the people of Co Monaghan; "People are struggling to stay afloat, and this decision adds more pressure on homeowners who are already stretched to their limits. We believe this is unfair, unjust, and completely out of touch with the reality that families, pensioners, and working people are living with every day."
As a result, Cllr Flynn along with her Sinn Fein colleagues are seeking to abolish local property tax entirely and strongly oppose this increase:
