"Housing is a major issue in Co Monaghan."
That's according to Cllr Seamus Coyle who says there is very little accommodation available for rent, particularly in the Ballybay area.
Cllr Coyle says Monaghan County Council are doing great work in getting new housing constructed in the county.
Despite this, he believes that the Ballybay area is at a disadvantage with lower population growth and infrastructural deficits compared to elsewhere.
With Monaghan part of the Northern Western Regional Assembly area, Cllr Coyle says many like himself feel that it is in the wrong assembly area and should be in the eastern section of the country.
He says EU funding is strongly linked to classification, therefore Co Monaghan receives less funding as it is classed as a developed area which he says in many areas is simply not true.
He has called for a complete review on regional boundaries in the hope of accessing more funding that will improve housing and infrastructural deficits across the area:
