As Father's Day approaches, a Co. Monaghan father and son are celebrating a milestone that means more to them than most.
A decade after donating a kidney to his son Mark, Paul Conlon successfully nominated the Irish Kidney Association as the beneficiary this year of their local Inniskeen Annual Charity Walk.
The Walk was held on 7th June, helping raise thousands of euros for the IKA's National Kidney Support Centre major renovation project fundraising appeal that supported his family through his son Mark's two life-saving transplant journeys.
The family's gratitude for the support they received is one of the reasons they were keen to fundraise for the IKA's National Kidney Support Centre at Beaumont Hospital.
Walking alongside father and son during the recent Inniskeen Charity Walk were Mark's brother Alan and his mother Patricia Conlon, whose reflections on the day were perhaps the most poignant of all.
As both a wife and a mother, Patricia has experienced two sides of the transplant journey.
She says she couldn't thank the support centre enough.
