Inniskeen is set to become the first village in Co Monaghan to have a master plan prepared by Monaghan County Council.
The news was confirmed earlier today during a meeting of the Castleblayney-Carrickmacross Municipal District.
The community developed a 20 year vision plan for the village, which includes a new bus and car park, new destination playground, graveyard extension, new school and housing development.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Noel Keelan described today's announcement as a very significant step forward, adding that the process will start very shortly.
He says the master plan is "badly needed" in Inniskeen.
Describing it as a "thriving community" Cllr Keelan said it's important to "get to grips" with the many issues impacting the village of Inniskeen such as congestion in the village and parking at the local school.
