Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher has expressed his "surprise" when it comes to the number of detections made by Gardaí towards those illegally driving an e-scooter on footpaths.
The overall figure goes back over a 24 month period, when the law was first introduced stating that it was illegal to be on an e-scooter on a public footpath amongst other things.
Since May 2024, there's only been eight detections made in Co Cavan and six across both Co Monaghan and Co Louth.
Senator Gallagher said he was "taken back" by this result adding that the amount of incidents which occur on daily basis does not match the amount of detections made.
As a result, he is calling for more of Garda presence in our towns and villages in order to pick up detections.
He also wrote to Gardaí asking for a greater awareness campaign for those illegally using footpaths when on an e-scooters.
