Works on a new play area at Dún a Rí Forest Park in Kingscourt has been delayed due to a felling licence.
Two years ago, over €500k was approved under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme by then Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys.
To date the works can't be carried out due to the two trees that need to be moved.
Local councillor, Clifford Kelly confirmed the issue to Northern Sound. The Fianna Fail representative said he was frustrated like so many others knowing the funding is ring fenced but works can't get underway until the licence is received. Cllr Kelly said it was very annoying that the money is just sitting there but they can't get the work done.
