A Monaghan resident has raised his concerns over the lack of Gardai in Monaghan Town.
Tommy Hagan who is a local peace commissioner and a former councillor is calling on more Gardai to be stationed in Monaghan.
He believes it evident that there is a lack of Gardai due to an almost not existent physical presence of Gardai patrolling the town of Monaghan. Mr Hagan says the government needs to act and act now to bring more Gardai to the region.
He said one of the biggest issues surrounding recruitment was the numbers that are retiring and the numbers that are being brought on stream. The local man says the government should open a second Garda training college to ramp up new recruits to the force. Tommy says the lack of Gardai is having a very negative impact on communities and it's simply not good enough.
