A local councillor has raised the issue of the lack of taxi and hackney services in Monaghan Town.
Fine Gael Councillor, Alan Johnston said that the issue was a very important safety issues especially for people trying to get home after a night out socialising. Councillor Johnson said that he was disappointed by the reply that was received from the office of Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien TD to previous representations they had made on the issue.
Councillor Johnston described the contents of the reply as frustrating, and said it was "passing the buck" for the Department to say that this was a matter for the Taxi Regulator. The other issue he said was the night time economy that depended on taxis operating in the town.
Cllr Johnson said Monaghan Town has taken a major hit when it comes to the drop off in the number of taxis over the last five years.
