The lack of supply is the biggest challenge when it comes to housing in Co Cavan.
That's according to James Spring of REA Donohoe Spring auctioneers. The Ballyconnell based auctioneer says the challenge is not only just for people looking to get onto the property ladder but also ourselves as agents.
James described sales as 'brisk', adding that from a property is listed, it's normally sale agreed within four to five weeks, and the vendors are always very happy with the prices they're achieving.
The average price of a home in Co Cavan has risen by 58% since 2020, according to property website Daft.ie.
During 2024, property prices in the Breffni County went up by 6% alone. Mr Spring, who runs the company in partnership with his wife Olivia Donohoe says the demand issue has been coming down the tracks along time, since the end of the Celtic Tiger.
He says the Covid pandemic five years ago sort of kick-started sales in terms of a lot of people who were looking to relocate from more urban areas, looking for a more rural way of life and in turn added more pressure to the housing market in the region.
