Land owners are being reminded of their obligations in relation to hedgerows along public roads.
The councils say they usually wait for four to six weeks after the cutting season starts in September to give people a chance to get their hedges cut however, there are always some who don't carry out the work.
This issue was raised by Councillor Sean Gilliland in Monaghan, who appealed to absent land and property owners locally to return to the vacant lands and carry out the work.
While in Cavan, as well as concerns about visibility and road safety, Councillor Winston Bennett said that the mirrors of lorries are being broken, costing between 500 and 700 euro to replace.
It was clarified to members of both councils that landowners are responsible for any damage caused to a vehicle by their hedge or trees.
