A Co Monaghan councillor is calling for the Minister for Housing and Local Government James Browne to introduce planning legislation to address issues around the increasing number of vape shops in our towns.
Sinn Fein’s Paul Gibbons says these shops do not need a special category of planning permission like off licenses and betting shops do and he feels that they should.
At this week’s sitting of Monaghan County Council, Cllr Gibbons also raised his concerns relating to shop fronts.
He says many have neon lights and brightly coloured signage located near schools and areas of architectural significance.
According to Cllr Gibbons, the number of such shops in a particular area all be considered as part of this review.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Gibbons said the aim of this motion is to protect public health, preserve town character and empower Local Government.
