A local councillor has called for an extension of road gritting routes to include the L7081 in Mountnugent.
Cllr Trevor Smith called on the local authority to include the route that runs close to the Meath border on the regular gritting route going forward.
The Sheelin Nursing home is located along the L7081 and the Fine Gael councillor says while it's a route that has been gritted during very bad cold spells, a regular salting of the road is needed.
Cllr Smith said he has been told that because of a lack of money the local authority can't add the route to the list but he will continue to call for the road network to be added due to the fact that road is used by older people, the vulnerable in the locality and parents on the school run.
He says he will continue to push for the road to to become a regular gritted route going forward.
