The lack of funding for addiction services for young people has been raised by a local councillor.
Cllr Damien Brady raised a motion on the issue at the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council. The local councillor said it was very worrying that so many young people are hooked on drugs, in what he believes is in an effort to fit it with their peers.
He said that unfortunately it's come to the situation that you can buy drugs in towns and villages as easy as you buy cigarettes. Cllr Patrica Walsh seconded the motion, she highlighted how she knew of a number of recent cases of intimidation due to sale of drugs adding that it's very frightening.
The calls made by Cllr Damien Brady got widespread support and will now see a letter being sent to HSE calling on them to offer more supports for the county going forward. He says it's a very important issue that needs support and funding which needs addressing sooner rather than later.
