Representations have been made to the Department of Transport to try and make sure money is directed to the N2 this year. Senator Robbie Gallagher asked the Minister for Transport about his plans to allocate funds to complete the design work on the Ardee to Castleblayney road scheme in the Seanad. The senator said he was keeping the N2 on the agenda and in the mind of the new minister as an announcement on roads funding for the coming year is expected in the next few weeks.
Robbie Gallagher told his Fianna Fáil party colleague, Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien, about how "sections of the road have been classified as having twice the expected collision rate and the death toll is alarming with 17 fatal collisions in the last ten years and 24 within the past 18 years." He also told Minister the local community is frustrated with the lack of progress on plans to make this road safer for everyone. He also put it to the minister that the five and a half million euro spent on consultation and other professional fees on this project so far will be money wasted because these projects are time-sensitive:
