A local councillor has called for the Taoiseach to immediately dismiss Larry Murrin as the chairman of Bord Bia.
Fianna Fáil Cllr. Seamus Coyle raised the issue of Dawn Farm Foods and the IFA’s ongoing protest at last week’s meeting of Monaghan County Council.
Cllr. Coyle believes that Larry Murrin’s position is a “conflict of interest” and “hypocrisy” at a time when high standards are demanded of Irish farmers.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that it is totally unacceptable that the head of Bord Bia’s company imports Brazilian Beef, and Larry Murrin has been able to continue in his position.
He believes that Ireland’s food reputation depends on the integrity of Bord Bia, and fairness for farmers.
He said: "Its an act of hypocrisy that the chair of Bord Bia has continued in his role while its been aware that this has been going on, and the importation of Brazilian has been coming into his home company.
"Ireland's food reputation depends on integrity, and farmers fairness and consistency. Farmers are of the highest quality. And I believe that confidence of the Irish farm organisations, farmers across the country, and indeed the consumers, is not what it once was," Cllr. Coyle explained.
