Local Deacon says "Prayer and education paved my way to priesthood"

He was ordained a Deacon last June upon completion of his studies

A Co Monaghan Deacon is set to be ordained to the he Priesthood this weekend.

Rev Deacon Stephen Sherry from the Parish of Tullycorbet was ordained as a Deacon last year.

Deacon Stephen is presently serving in the Parish of Monaghan and Rackwallace and in the Parish of Roslea as a Deacon.

He was ordained a Deacon last June upon completion of his studies for the priesthood at St Patrick’s College Maynooth.

The ordination Mass will be celebrated in St Macartan’s Cathedral, Monaghan at 3pm on Sunday.

The 30-year-old local man has completed many pastoral placements, including in the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin.

He said he found working there as very eye opening.

Deacon Stephen says his call to Priesthood came to him prior to finishing his leaving cert studies in Ballybay.
