Cavan and Monaghan Hospital will no longer accept new cardiology referrals.
Confirmation was sent to all local GP's stating the latest development yesterday evening. Dr Illona Duffy says it is very concerning but she says GP's were aware that delays and cancellations recently due to a consultant moving to another hospital.
She pointed out that the waiting list had been getting longer and this news has been described as 'very disappointing' by the Monaghan doctor. Dr Duffy says the letter informed GP's to find other pathways for their patients, but she says these other pathways don't exist. The Monaghan GP says this problem was coming down the track following no replacement consultant being found for the local hospital.
