The National Transport Authority has identified both the Smithboro–Monaghan and Rockcorry–Monaghan bus routes for improvements under the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan.
The news was confirmed to Cllr Sinead Flynn after she sought an update on the provision of Local Link services for the villages of Smithboro and Rockcorry.
While welcoming the news, the Sinn Fein representative said these improvements are dependent on funding from the Department of Transport, and no timeline has been provided.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Flynn said: "Now more than ever, we need adequate and reliable public transport in our towns and villages. Rural communities cannot continue to be left behind.
"People need proper access to work, education, healthcare, and social opportunities. I will continue to push for the necessary funding and demand clear timelines for delivery. Our communities deserve better."
