A Cavan man who worked as a healthcare assistant is appealing for a Covid payment scheme to continue.
In April 2020, Michael from Cavan tested positive for Covid, he had been working on the front lines in Cavan General Hospital.
Five years on, Michael is still struggling to function in daily activities, and he has not been able to go back to work due to long Covid.
The payment scheme is due to finish at the end of the month, but Michael is making the point that people like himself are still suffering and need support.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show, Michael appealed for the special pay to be reinstated for healthcare workers.
"I can nearly say my working days are very limited now because I just cannot function. If I potter around, I'm fine doing little jobs and not exert myself. But if I exert myself in any way at all, I'm on the ground, I'm getting sick, it's like my battery's ran out and that's me done for the day and the next day I'm probably sleeping most of the day. I had sort of two points to make this morning. One was to create awareness of the effects of Long Covid and ask the government to reinstate the special pay for all healthcare workers."
