A double lung and kidney transplant recipient from Kingscourt who also battled skin cancer and was placed in a coma because of Covid-19 complications completed the Chicago marathon over the weekend.
David Crosby ran his fourth marathon alongside his wife and recent kidney donor, Katie.
The inspirational athlete walked the gruelling distance.
Speaking to Northern Sound, David said it was a "proud day" for himself, his wife Katie and his family.
He says the idea of completing a marathon four years ago would of seemed "crazy" however all was made possible due to his wife donating her kidney.
The Kingscourt man said while the marathon itself was psychically challenging, it was his mental strength which got him over the finish line: "Four years ago, completing a marathon was the last thing on my mind but thankfully I received an amazing gift from my wife and best friend Katie who donated one of her kidneys to me. She was hinting about doing a a marathon and I wanted to bring the two kidneys together and for us to do the marathon together."
