A local councillor says it's an "absolute disgrace" that a road has been closed in the Newbliss area for almost eight months.
The Drumary Bridge was granted a funding allocation for specific bridge improvements works to be carried out in order upgrade the condition of the bridge.
According to Cllr Richard Truell, this bridge is situated on a "busy road" which leads to the popular Tyrone Guthrie Centre.
Cllr Truell said it is an "utter scandal" that this road has been closed for nearly eight months, adding that it's an "absolute disgrace" that a road could for this long in this day and age.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Fine Gael representative highlighted that the closure has been an "absolute nightmare" for local farmers, land owners, road users, residents and businesses.
The design of the works is "complete over kill" and too much for what is was meant to be.
Cllr Truell said Monaghan County Council applied for a specific grant therefore it had to go for that specific design.
On three separate occasions Cllr Truell was given different dates that the work would be completed by, however this has never came to fruition.
At this week's sitting of Monaghan County Council, Cllr Truell was informed that it's now hoped that works will be complete and the bridge will be reopened by the end of next week.
Cllr Truell said it's not fair on people and he hopes lessons will be learned from this experience.
