A Co Cavan councillor has raised his concerns in relation to elderly people who have been left in limbo due to expired driving licences.
Cllr Damien Brady believes the National Driver Licence Service is causing major stress to people over 70 who already feel isolated enough without being stripped of their driving licence.
With many finding it very difficult to renew their licence, Cllr Brady said some have even been left with no other option but to re-sit their theory and driving tests.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Brady said many people over the age of 70 have been left in "shock" over this as many only drive a short amount of distance every day and were unaware that their licence had expired without any warning.
As a result of his concerns, Cavan County Council will now write to the NDLAS calling on the service to write to older people about renewing their licence before it expires:
