A local professor says anyone travelling from the UK ahead of Christmas should take regular antigen tests.
While the Omicron variant continues to spread in Ireland, Professor Sam McConkey says it is already rampant in the UK and those returning home need to take precautions.
He is advising that anyone arriving into the country buy a number of antigen tests and take one every morning for the first five to six days after arrival.
