A Co. Monaghan publican has outlined the decline in young people going out and socialising.
Cllr. Raymond Aughey is the owner of the Squealing Pig in Monaghan Town.
The publican explained that socialising is now done predominately online, and that older generations still rely on the pub.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that the pub is the "hub" of the rural community, and that older people are very reliant on it for socialising.
Cllr. Aughey explained the difference he has noticed in younger people.
He said: "The younger generation the pub is probably not their first port of call. Its a social thing, a lot of young people are on social media.
"When it comes to dating, years ago you'd meet people in the pub, for young people its Tinder or some other platform.
"So the younger generation probably are shifting away from the pub," he added.
