A local TD and Justice spokesperson for Sinn Fein has spoken on the party's newly published proposals to tackle what he describes as a worsening recruitment and retention crisis in An Garda Síochána
Matt Carthy says the party is calling for the Garda training allowance to be raised, and for the Garda College raise the number of recruits, along with other measures.
Deputy Carthy also wants to see incentives for the retention of experienced officers.
Speaking to Northern Sound he says urgent action is needed to boost Garda numbers and restore a visible Garda presence in communities across the country.
He spoke about the importance of a visible garda presence, especially in Cavan and Monaghan.
