A local publican is welcoming the change to the hospitality VAT rate, though says the industry is still under huge pressure.
As of today, the VAT rate on restaurant and hairdressing services falls from 13.5% to 9% under the measure, which was announced in budget 2026.
Kevin Redmond of Andy's Bar and Restaurant welcomed the change, adding that the pub industry has seen major changes over the years.
He noted that one in four pubs have closed since 2005, and that the next one under pressure is restaurants.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Kevin said that hospitality is still under pressure.
