"Most fatalities that take place throughout the year could be avoided."
That's according to Adrian O'Sullivan who is the road safety officer with Monaghan County Council.
Over the Christmas and New Year period, there is an increase in the use of the roads for recreational purposes and the risk of fatal or serious injury road traffic collisions is increased.
As a result, Mr O'Sullivan has warned local road users to never drive under the influence of drink or drugs.
