The upcoming Budget must address what one local senator calls "discriminatory" inheritance tax rules for childless people.
Aontú Senator Sarah O’Reilly, who represents Cavan-Monaghan, says the current system is "blatantly unfair," particularly for those without children.
Under existing rules, children can inherit up to €400,000 tax free, but the threshold drops to €40,000 for other close relatives.
Senator O’Reilly is calling for a complete overhaul of Ireland’s tax laws.
