A local senator says that as community and as a country we are deeply indebted to those who volunteer as first aid responders.
Robbie Gallagher noted that the defibrillators can be seen everywhere, and that it's a huge credit to the local community to have those installed.
He was speaking as he has recently been approached by the Irish Heart Foundation and has been raising the importance of introducing CPR and first aid training as part of the driver theory test.
Similar measures are due to be introduced in the UK in early 2026, with an EU directive expected to be transposed into Irish law within two years, which would up the number of people who are trained in CPR and First aid.
As it stands, Senator Gallagher said those who give their time volunteering for the first responders deserve huge credit.
