Sinn Féin TD Matt Carthy has voiced opposition to his party’s new policy backing a ban on fox hunting for leisure.
The stance was adopted at the recent Sinn Féin Ard Fheis, despite internal debate among delegates.
Carthy said he favours strict regulation over an outright ban, citing concerns in rural communities.
He stressed that Sinn Féin does not support banning all hunting activities and values local game clubs.
Deputy Carthy said he is opposed to adopt an absolutist position.
