Cavan-Monaghan TD Brendan says the Legacy Act was an important talking point at the most recent sitting of the British Irish Parliamentary Assembly which he is co-chair of.
While it is never easy dealing with legacy issues, Deputy Smith said it's important that the truth is established.
Other issues which featured across the intensive talks was ways to improve bilateral relationships between Ireland and Britain following the signing of the framework document.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said it was important to bring forward measures that will have victims at the centre of the entire process.
