The plight of the so-called undocumented Cavan and Monaghan people living in the United States cannot be forgotten about even in the Trump era.
Local TD Brendan Smith chose the occasion of this St. Patrick's bank holiday weekend to urge the continued support for the undocumented Irish by calling for the re-introduction of the E-3 Visa.
Deputy Smith says he still receives representations from Cavan and Monaghan families on both sides of the Atlantic who have missed out on many occasions because their loved ones living in the US cannot get citizenship despite living and paying taxes in their adopted country for years.
The TD submitted questions on the issue in the Dail recently when the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris said "securing legal pathways for Irish people seeking to live and work in the US is in the Programme for Government.
