A local TD has explained the criteria Sinn Fein looked at when making decisions about the upcoming presidential election.
Over the weekend, Sinn Féin confirmed it's not putting forward its own candidate and will instead support Independent TD Catherine Connolly.
The move places Sinn Féin alongside a wide left alliance that already includes Labour, the Social Democrats, the Green Party, and People Before Profit-Solidarity.
TD Matt Carthy spoke on the Joe Finnegan show today about his party's decision.
He explained that the party has certain criteria it wants to achieve, and believes that Catherine Connolly is the best candidate for the job.
