People in Monaghan are facing unacceptable delays at the A&E in Cavan General Hospital.
That's according to Deputy Cathy Bennett, who raised the issue in the Dáil last week.
The deputy says she has received reports from constituents who are waiting up to 24 hours before being seen by a nurse or doctor.
She says the pressure on services is being worsened by the lack of an A&E department in Monaghan, forcing residents to travel to Cavan for emergency care.
Deputy Bennett is calling for the restoration of a full emergency department at Monaghan Hospital to ease pressure on Cavan General.
In response Tánaiste Simon Harris said there are no plans to open new emergency departments.
However, he confirmed he will ask the Minister for Health to come back to deputy Bennett on Cavan emergency department wait times and any further plans in regard to Monaghan.
