Local TD wants to see 'more women' in politics

Deputy Bennett said it's important for women to realise their own potential and to know their voices have the power to bring about the changes that are needed in society.

Local TD Cathy Bennett is encouraging women of all ages to get involved in politics in order to create the change that is needed. A number of events have taken place across the Northern Sound region this week to mark International Women's Day, which officially takes place tomorrow, March 8th. Cavan - Monaghan TD Cathy Bennett attended the National Women's Council event to launch "A Feminist Shared Future" whilst members of the Blayney Blades and the Monaghan Women's Assembly travelled to Stormont yesterday as part of a cross-border initiative to celebrate International Women's Day.

Deputy Bennett believes women's voices should be heard in the shared future on the island of Ireland. As the only female currently representing Co Monaghan in Dail Eireann, Deputy Bennett wants to see more women get involved in politics. Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Bennett believes women are "are completely under-represented in politics" adding that "if you want to see change, you have to be part of it."
